Supporting practitioners, children and their families with the transition process, from pre-school into nursery and reception settings.
About Supporting Smooth Transitions
Some children may need particular help, including from other agencies, to ensure that their transition is as smooth as possible.
Research suggests that transitions are central to young children’s development and emotional wellbeing. How the first transitions are handled can have a significant impact on a child’s capacity to cope with change in the short and long term and impact on the progress they make from their starting points. New for 2024 - Activity cards (digital versions) and updated activity planners
Our activity cards have been developed for children starting Reception as part of the Supporting Smooth Transition procedures. Parents and carers can keep them handy on their digital devices for when they are doing things at home or are out and about, to help their child find out about new things and develop the skills that will help learning at school.
The poster can be printed and displayed in schools or settings so that parents/carers can access the digital version or the cards can be downloaded and sent digitally to families.
