Our maths competition is a little different from other challenges. It is designed around the skills we believe make great mathematicians.
The Year 5 Maths Challenge is not only a fantastic way for children to showcase their maths skills, but they also foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration.
Last year, just over 2,500 children took part in the HFL Education maths challenges.
The 2025 Year 5 Maths Challenge event is open for team registration.
All heats and the final take place online so teams can join from the comfort of their own schools.
This year’s heats will be held on the following dates:
- HEAT 1 – Thursday 27th February, 1.30pm - 2.30pm
- HEAT 2 – Thursday 27th February, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
- HEAT 3 – Monday 3rd March, 1.30pm - 2.30pm
- HEAT 4 – Monday 3rd March, 3.30pm - 4.30pm
The final will take place on Tuesday 25th March from 1:30-3:10pm.
All of the questions have been designed with the time of year in mind and the time limits for questions will vary based on complexity.
This year, to replace the ‘memory round’, teams will be sent 3 ‘Perplexing Puzzles’ to complete in school prior to their heat. Points gained from these will contribute to the overall total points scored.
